Netflix is reportedly in talks with Spotify to partner on several music events.
Streamers unite:
As per the Wall Street Journal, the Netflix-Spotify collaboration could result in a music awards show or live concert series.
There are also talks of celebrity interviews and “shorter-turnaround” documentaries.
The discussions come as Spotify is experimenting with expanding its video content.
Netflix’s other music moves:
Netflix is rebooting classic talent show Star Search, with an added musical focus.
It is also debuting its new show, Building the Band, week commencing July 7.
Hosted by Backstreet Boys’ AJ McLean, it features musicians auditioning to join a new band – but the contestants will not see each other until their first rehearsal.
As per Digital Music News, Jeff Gaspin, who acquired The Voice for NBCUniversal, is heading up Netflix’s search for the “next great music competition show.”
He is also looking to expand Netflix’s unscripted content.
